71/Hour GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES This employee works with WIC clients to determine program eligibility, to explain program benefits and client responsibilities and to issue WIC food instruments.
This person is responsible for record keeping and data entry for the WIC program.
This person communicates with WIC clients, WIC vendors, WIC staff and other health department employees to provide services to WIC clients in a courteous, timely and efficient manner according to program policies and guidelines.
Public Health is a first responder agency for natural disasters (e.
g.
hurricanes, tornados, floods, winter storms), naturally occurring infectious disease outbreaks (e.
g.
influenza, SARS), technological hazards (hazardous materials releases, critical infrastructure disruptions), and terrorist incidents.
This position, like all other positions within the Department may be required to participate in any emergency response activities as deemed necessary by the Health Director or his/her designee.
Availability during emergencies and exercises is required.
Appropriate ICS courses are completed as applicable to position.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES PERFORMED Interview WIC clients to obtain personal data and eligibility information.
Complete application paperwork, includes finding/creating medical records, and registration for hemoglobin.
Provide basic nutrition education to low-risk clients when needed.
Analyze and determine identity, income and residential eligibility for WIC applicants.
Explain WIC program rules, regulations and how to redeem WIC vouchers.
Schedule new and follow-up WIC appointments including in-person contact, telephone calls and letters.
Enter data manually and into the WIC database and NCIR on the computer.
File reports, summary sheets, and income cards.
Maintain accuracy and completeness of work according to WIC program guidelines.
Assist with vendor monitoring and training and other vendor services as needed.
RECRUITMENT STANDARDS Employee should have a basic knowledge of computers and data entry with the ability to use office machines such as fax, typewriter, telephone, copier, computer, printer, and calculator.
Employee should have the ability to interact positively and courteously with the public, effectively prioritize and organize time while accurately collecting data, data entry, and record keeping MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High school diploma plus one year clerical/customer service experience.
English and Spanish preferred.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
