Responsibilities:
oStacks, straightens, and cleans frame boards as necessary.oDetermines client's current lens prescription, when necessary, using lensometer or lensanalyzer and client's eyeglasses.oRecommends specific lenses, lens coatings, and frames to suit client needs.oUnder supervision assists client in selecting frames according to style and color, coordinatingframes with facial and eye measurements and optical prescription.oUnder supervision, measures client's bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance,pupillary distance, and optical centers of eyes.oUnder supervision, prepares work order and instructions for grinding lenses and fabricatingeyeglasses.oUnder supervision, verifies finished lenses are ground to specification.oWith supervision, heats, shapes, or bends plastic or metal frames to adjust eyeglasses to fitclient.oInstructs clients in adapting to, wearing, and caring for eyeglasses.oEvaluates and does preliminary assessments of problems with patient's eyeglasses.oSells optical goods such as binoculars, plano sunglasses, magnifying glasses, and low visionaids.oRepairs damaged frames as well as screws, nose pads and temple pinsPerforms hinge repairsand holders.oComputes amount of sale.oOther duties as assigned.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEoHigh School educationoOptical-related experience preferredoCertification within one year of hire to retain positionESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIESoStrong communication and interpersonal skillsoProblem-solver with analytical skillsoPersonable; empathetic with patient's needs and concernsoWell-organized with attention to detailoAbility to work as a team memberoDemonstrated computer literacyoWillingness and ability to travel to satellite locationsLANGUAGE SKILLSoAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memosoAbility to write sample correspondenceoAbility to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations tocustomers, clients, and other employees of the organizationMATHEMATICAL SKILLSoAbility to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units or measure, using whole numbers,common fractions, and decimals.REASONING ABILITIESoAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written andoral instructions.oAbility to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demand described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee tosuccessfully perform the essential functions of this jobReasonable accommodations may be made toenable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands tofinger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and speak or hearThe employee is regularlyrequired to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawlThe employee must occasionally lift and/or move upto 10 poundsSpecific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.WORK ENVIRONMENTThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employeeencounters while performing the essential functions of this jobReasonable accommodations may bemade to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functionsThe noise level in thework environment is usually moderate.
